Semax is a synthetic peptide developed in Russia, based on a fragment of the natural hormone ACTH with extra amino acids added to make it more stable. It falls into the class of ACTH-derived neuropeptides. Researchers study it mainly for its reported effects on brain signalling proteins like BDNF.

What has research shown about Semax?

In rodent studies, Semax has been linked to higher BDNF levels and possible protection of neurons in models of reduced blood flow to the brain. Some animal work also points to shifts in dopamine and serotonin activity. All of this is preclinical — findings in animals or cells don't guarantee the same in humans.

Is Semax FDA approved?
