An eleven-amino-acid peptide derived from the helix-B domain of erythropoietin, also known as cibinetide. It was designed to engage the tissue-protective receptor pathway associated with erythropoietin without the red-blood-cell-producing activity.

How does it differ from erythropoietin?

Erythropoietin acts both on the classical receptor that drives erythropoiesis and on a separate receptor complex linked to tissue repair. ARA-290 reproduces only the second in preclinical work, which is why it is used to separate the two.

What is the innate repair receptor?

A receptor complex formed from the erythropoietin receptor and the beta-common receptor subunit, associated in the literature with tissue-protective signalling rather than red-cell production.
