What is Kisspeptin-10?

The ten-amino-acid C-terminal fragment of kisspeptin, the peptide product of the KISS1 gene. The fragment retains full activity at the KISS1R receptor.

What receptor does it act on?

KISS1R, a G-protein-coupled receptor previously known as GPR54. It is expressed on gonadotropin-releasing hormone neurons, which is why the peptide is studied as an upstream signal.

Why study a fragment rather than the whole peptide?

The C-terminal decapeptide carries the receptor-binding activity of the full-length molecule, so it is a simpler and more stable tool for laboratory work.
